The comparison

Three ways to cover yourself.
One that actually fits.

Most people default to the marketplace or COBRA because they don't know there's a third option. Here's the honest side-by-side.

Option 01

ACA Marketplace

If you don't qualify for subsidies.

  • Premiums average $600–$1,400/mo for a family unsubsidized
  • Deductibles $7K–$10K before coverage kicks in
  • Narrow HMO networks — often no PPO option
  • Open enrollment only (unless qualifying event)
Option 02

COBRA

If you just left a job.

  • Employer subsidy is gone — you pay 100% + admin fee
  • Commonly $1,500–$2,500/mo for family coverage
  • Limited to 18 months, then you need something else
  • Must enroll within 60 days of losing coverage
What we offer
Option 03

Private PPO Coverage

For healthy self-pay adults under 65.

  • +Often 30–50% less than unsubsidized marketplace plans*
  • +Access to nationwide PPO networks — keep your doctors
  • +Enroll any time — coverage can start as early as tomorrow
  • +Licensed agent tailors a plan to your exact situation

*Savings comparisons are based on self-reported member data compared to unsubsidized ACA marketplace premiums. Your results will vary. Private health plans described here are not ACA-qualified major medical coverage. See footer for full disclosures.

What to expect

A real conversation — not a robocall.

When you call, a licensed agent — a real person — spends about five to ten minutes learning your situation. No hold music, no script, no bots.

01

You call the number.

Typically answered in under 60 seconds by a licensed agent in your region. No IVR menu trees, no "press 1 for English."

02

They learn your situation.

About five to ten minutes: your state, your household, your doctors, your budget. They'll tell you plainly what your options are — and what they aren't.

03

Enroll — or don't.

If a plan fits, you can enroll right on the call. Many plans activate as early as the next day. If nothing fits, the agent tells you that too. No pressure.

"I was paying $740 a month through the marketplace for a plan I never used. Agent spent 15 minutes on the phone with me, found something on a PPO network for a little over $400. I can actually see my regular doctor."

"Left my W-2 job in March. COBRA quoted me $620. I called the number on an ad at 8pm on a Tuesday expecting voicemail — got a real agent, enrolled in something cheaper by the end of the call."

"Family of four. The agent was straight with me about what the plan did and didn't cover — no BS, no pressure. We went with it for the network access. My wife kept her cardiologist."

Before you call

The questions everyone asks first.

Is this actual insurance? +
The plans our licensed agents offer are private health coverage options, which may include short-term medical, fixed-benefit, and supplemental plans that use PPO provider networks. These are not ACA-qualified major medical insurance, and they do not satisfy the requirement for minimum essential coverage under federal law. Your agent will explain exactly what each plan does and does not cover before you enroll.
Why is it so much cheaper than marketplace plans? +
Two reasons: these plans are underwritten (healthy applicants typically pay less) and they have different coverage rules than ACA major medical plans — for example, they may not cover pre-existing conditions, may have annual/lifetime benefit caps, and may exclude certain services. This is why talking to a licensed agent matters: they help you understand the trade-offs based on your situation.
Can I keep my doctor? +
Most plans we offer use major nationwide PPO provider networks, meaning the majority of U.S. doctors and hospitals accept them. Your agent can look up whether your specific doctor is in-network before you enroll — just have their name ready when you call.
How fast can coverage start? +
Many plans can activate as soon as the next day. Some have a short underwriting window. Your agent will give you the exact start date before you commit to anything.
What happens when I call? +
A licensed agent answers — typically within 60 seconds. They'll ask about your state, age, household, any current coverage, and what matters most to you (keeping a doctor, low monthly cost, etc.). Expect the call to take 5–10 minutes. There is no obligation to enroll.
Why do rates keep going up if I wait? +
Private health plans are underwritten based on age and health status at the time of application. Birthdays and new medical events can push your premium higher. If you've been putting it off, the rate you'd get today is likely the best rate you'll see this year.
Are you a government website? +
No. This site is privately owned and operated. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by HealthCare.gov, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, or any federal or state government agency. If you want to shop ACA-qualified marketplace plans, visit HealthCare.gov directly.
